This year I will start pursuing educational research in the state of Rhode Island. The study being conducted will asses many variables comparing and contrasting public schools, to private schools, alongside up and coming vocational and charter schools. Some of the variables used will be linked to income-class, school and neighborhood environment, nutrition, technology, classroom size, and infrastructure, among many others. Starting in late August of 2017, I will travel and conduct interviews and record my findings.
I am incredibly passionate about this topic, and feel that even in the progressive state of Rhode Island, public education still needs a lot of care and attention. After reading works by Jonathan Kozol, such as Savage Inequalities and Shame of the Nation, I was deeply inspired to take up this research, and study the public education system interconnected with environmental inequality.
