My One-Day Internship with the State Director

   During my One-Day Internship with the State Director, John Berard of Clean Water Action, I learned a great deal of information about local environmental initiatives, and how the policy process works on the state level. I was also able to witness first hand how sustainable infrastructure is implemented and developed by sitting in on local committees currently working on these ideas. During this day, I was able to sit in on two different committees, one committed to Smart Growth, and one committed to storm water technology and awareness. At the State House, I was able to watch a public legislative session which was an informative learning experience for me. I was then able to watch the State Director

testify against a bill that I also felt strongly against.

    This experience empowered me to further get involved in environmental policy, and to become more aware of local policy issues. After watching John's busy day, it showed me that getting involved in multiple environmental groups and taking a stand in what is right, are attributes that are necessary in the

field of environmental justice.
