Social Problems – Minor Dissertation on College Affordability

 

Race & Ethnic Relations –Examined Race and Ethnicity in American society, and analyzed institutional failures that perpetuate racism, prejudice, and discrimination creating barriers within income class.

 

Environmental Policy –Learned how to deconstruct and examine public policy that affects the environment, and relate it to theory. During this class I conducted the first Case Study on Rhode Island’s Geoengineering Legislation.

 

Local and Global Environmental Communications –Developed communication skills spreading environmental awareness by presenting environmentally sustainable projects before my class, and by speaking to students from other countries to gain a better understanding of how environmental issues affect everyone across the globe.

 

Environmental Sociology – Conceptualizing various theories that seek to explain why and how individuals view the environment and social justice issues differently. In this course, I presented and wrote about Geoengineering as my topic of interest and related the topic to theories discussed throughout the semester.

 

Environmental Injustice – Developing an understanding of the history of environmental movements, how globalization and imperialism have affected indigenous cultures, and deepening my knowledge on environmental health and racism. Throughout this course I was able to facilitate discussions twice with my classmates, and wrote about issues regarding environmental and social inequality locally, nationally, and globally.

 

Social Theory & Research Methods – Understanding the foundations of Sociology, the founders, and learning how to create a social research study. These two courses helped me develop a sense of history and biography, and deepen my sociological imagination.

 

Urban Problems – This course highlighted various structural issues in society that perpetuate environmental racism and injustice. Discussed political issues, analyzed urban history and issues from various time periods, also dissected a particular problem of interest to identify current solutions.

Gender Inequality -- Helped develop a deeper understanding on why and how inequality persists in America, and interconnects feminist theories with modern issues.

Senior Seminar -- Reflected on my college career, and helped strengthen my knowledge on Sociological concepts, and theories.
